Ryusui means ‘flowing water’.
Tanemura Sensei compares
the flowing water in a Japanese mountain river with the martial art Ninpo. Every
turn in the river is an obstacle that needs to be taken by the water. Just like
every kyu is an obstacle to be taken by the martial artist. Some places in the
river flow fast, some slow.. Like Ninpo, some passages can be taken fast, but
some are difficult and need more time. Ninpo is like water, it is constantly
in motion en can take new forms. Water is a symbol of a circle of life. It evaporates
from the sea, turns into clouds and above land it becomes rain which will fill
the rivers with water, the rivers take the water back to the sea… Another lifecircle
is the martial art. When reaching the highest level, the martial artist man
is back at the beginning. At this high level the techniques learned in the very
beginning then show other perspectives and the years of experience make other
movements/techniques possible...
Ninpo is in motion...
